Leave A Light On

Hello everyone and welcome back! Just incase you were interested, I have power back so I thought today I would look into some interesting lighting fixtures. There are a few things I look for when it comes to lighting. The first is the design of the piece itself. With pieces like wall sconces or floor lamps, design is critical because it will serve as a light source for the space and will also be an interesting element when they light is turned off.

This floor lamp from Johan Lindstens' Oak Concept collection is a great example of just that. From the shape of the piece to how thin the LED light unit is, it encourages people to take a closer look. The collection was born from the lack of modern wooden furniture and combines old world craftsman ship with modern design.

Moving on to the second key attribute to lighting is the light spread. Light spread is, for the lack of a better example, the way the light itself interacts with surfaces around it. This is what gives the piece its soul. Its not so much as lightings a space, but controlling where the light starts and stops.

Above are a series of lighting pendants by the Italy design company Puntozero. It is a great example of how you can manipulate light to create patterns and the illusion of texture to a wall.

Tonight I will leave you with a few images of lamps from a designer that I feel is second to none when it comes to manipulating light while maintaining beautiful designs, Toshiyuki Tani. He primarily uses bamboo and creates some very elaborate light patterns. ENJOY!
